22rileyspfeaturemainBirch Run, Michigan (Friday, May 8, 2009): The Sportsman rolled out next for their 25-lap Feature as Chris Stearns started on the pole along-side Chet Allen, and it would be Stearns beating Allen to the first corner to take the early lead.

Stearns tried to run away from the rest of the field, but Fast Qualifier Don Riley quickly worked his way up to second from his fifth starting spot and began applying heavy pressure to Stearns, who was pulling double-duty with the same car as he would later race in the Street Stocks Feature on the adjoining 1/3 (0.333) mile semi-banked paved oval.

Riley pulled up along-side Stearns as the crossed flags signal was given and for the next seven laps, Riley rode around the outside of Stearns until finally completing the pass on Lap 22. Riley wasn’t to be denied once he grabbed the lead in his Steven’s Cycle / Chevrolet as the Bay City, Michigan veteran, the 2008 Runner-Up in the Sportsman division, would start 2009 off right with the feature win.

Stearns settled for second while Allen. 2008 Track Champion Kevin Harder, and Joe Cunningham were the Top Five. Dennis Roys was sixth and was followed by Dale Malusi, Gary Shank Jr., Jimmy Novak, and Brad McGeathy Jr., who finished off the Top 10. Riley was the fast qualifier with a 17.354 as Novak and Cunningham each picked up a heat race victory.
