Birch Run, Michigan (Friday, May 15, 2009): Jimmy Novak and Gary Shank Jr. lead the field down to the green flag for the 25-lap Sportsmen feature and it would be the 16-year-old Novak leading the opening lap. Chris Stearns quickly worked his way through the field from his fourth starting spot and took over the top spotby lap two.
Chet Allen and defending track champion, Kevin Harder would be all over Stearns, but Stearns would hold them off lap after lap. Coming down to take the checkered flag, Allen would make one more last ditch effort to get by the Davison, Michigan driver .
As hard as Allen tried, it just wasn't too be as Stearns in his Stearns M-15 Garage Chevrolet would fight off the advances of Allen to go on and win his first Sportsmen feature of the season.
Harder would come home second and earn the Schafer and Bierlein Hard-Charger of the Race Award while opening night feature winner, Don Riley was third. Novak got the fourth spot as Allen rounding out the top five.
Riley was the fast qualifier for the second night in a row with a 17.276 while Gary Shank Jr., brought home the heat race win.
