3luberdasrmod043010 Birch Run, Michigan (Friday, April 30, 2010): In the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home Modifieds, 2009 Rookie of the Year 19-year-old John King and Rod Laney brought the field down to Chief Starter, Rich Haskins’ green flag and it would Laney beating King to the first corner to grab the early advantage over the rest of the pack.

Several cautions plagued the 30-lap feature event early and all the while, Laney maintained the top spot. Ken O’Connor worked on Laney and just past the halfway point, would grab the lead away from Laney on Lap 16 and begin pulling away from the rest of the field.

A caution on Lap 22 played a key role in the outcome as during the caution period, O’Connor slowed and eventually pulled off the track due to a broken rear end gear. This gave the lead back to Laney only this time he had Fast Qualifier, Mike Luberda Sr., on his back bumper. With five laps to go, Luberda Sr., made the pass for the lead and brought Two-Time and Defending Track Champion, Nick Clemens with him.

Clemens tried every trick in his arsenal to get by the crafty veteran, but the 62-year-old Luberda Sr., was determined to win his first feature in over three seasons and the AuGres, Michigan veteran accomplished his goal and would steer his Luberda’s Wood Products Chevrolet into victory lane to score the popular feature win!

Clemens settled for second while Laney, Bobby Heyink, and Jordan Pruitt finished off the Top Five. Luberda Sr’s fast time around the 4/10s mile was a 16.279 as O’Connor scored the Heat Race win earlier in the evening.
