5newmanjrss043010Birch Run, Michigan (Friday, April 30, 2010): The final oval track feature of Opening Night 2010 was for the RacingPartSales.com Street Stocks with 2009 Rookie of the Year Aaron Spearling and Bill Jaksa heading to the green flag to begin their 25-lap feature on the 1/3 mile. Spearling would just edge Jaksa heading into the first corner to grab the early lead.

Two-Time Defending Track Champion, Ed Newman Jr., who started seventh methodically picked his way through the field and soon was on Spearling’s back bumper and on Lap 11, Newman Jr., grabbed the lead away before a caution flew two laps later on Lap 13. As the green flag waved again, Newman Jr., was caught napping at the start and Spearling went around the reigning champion to retake the lead.

Newman Jr., regrouped however and wrestled the lead back from Spearling a lap later. Rookie Chad Congdon got around Spearling and tried in vain to reel in Newman Jr., and a caution with six laps to go bunched the field up. But Newman Jr., was determined and started off his bid at a “Three-Peat” on the right path as the New Lothrop, Michigan veteran in his Wirsing Welding and Fabricating Chevrolet would hang on to win.

Al Boitel Jr., inherited second while Spearling, Michigan Motorsports Hall of Fame Driver, Jay Woolworth, and Jaksa were the Top Five. Two-Time Track Champion, Jim Severn was sixth over Rookie Andy Moss. Josh Hahn, and two more Rookies Jeremy Spencer and Matt Singer the Top 10.

Newman Jr., also set fast time earlier in the day with a 16.394 around the 1/3 mile as Jaksa and Woolworth collected Heat Race Wins.
