Owosso, Michigan (Monday, February 1, 2010): Ain’t no party like a preseason registration party, ‘cause a preseason registration party stops at 5." Unless you’re Galen Beauch and Grant Campau.
That’s right, I am sitting on the couch, my laptop living up to its name and resting on top of my lap as I try and recollect all the interesting moments from the Owosso and Dixie Motor Speedway preseason registration parties.
First off a huge thank you to Nic’s Restaurant and Bowl in Ovid and the Bus Stop Inn in Birch Run for hosting us. Nic’s has some of the best food in the Owosso-area and I always enjoy going there, especially with all my friends and co-workers from the Owosso Speedway. It was very promising to see how many new drivers registered for 2010 at the Big "O."
Ted and Terri Johnson, owners of the Bus Stop Inn have a great place, and never once was my glass of Coca-Cola empty. And of course it didn’t hurt to have videos of some of Ted’s races at Dixie, Tri-City Motor Speedway and countless other race tracks, playing. And again we had a great group of new drivers as well as many returning regulars present.
It’s always a rare treat over the off season to be able to find time to sit down with your racing friends and have a complaint-fest over how much winter sucks and how many more days is it until racing starts again (88 as of February 1st).
William Theobald or better known as "Theo" from Dragon On Graphics was there getting interviews with our drivers and staff, he told me they should be online within a couple weeks, and you can find them by checking out the Dragon On Graphics page underneath the “Features” tab on www.dixiemotorspeedway.com and www.owossospeedway.com
And you can also see some pretty cool videos on their YouTube channel at: www.youtube.com/DragonOnGraphics
The 2010 season is rapidly approaching, and I have plans to be attending 56 races total, 46 of which are at Dixie and Owosso. Should be a great season with a lot of the local tracks having some interesting programs on Sundays that allow me to do a little traveling, and I highly recommend all race fans take in all the different flavors, if you will, on a night when Dixie and Owosso aren’t running of course.
Also I was pleased to read that Owosso Speedway is once again associated with the “Thursday Night Thunder” out at the Shiawassee County Fairgrounds on August 12th. I’d definitely stay tuned to the Owosso website for announcements in regards to this event. It was a very unique show and looks to be even more interesting in 2010.
Looks like that’s all for this installment. Make sure to keep your browsers on the Dixie and Owosso websites as we give you daily updates on our drivers down at the New Smyrna Speedway for Speedweeks starting Friday, February 5th.
This column will remain bi-weekly through the off-season, because if I don’t write this, the clowns will eat me. Any questions or comments can be sent to me via e-mail at:
