05burtonbanquetIn the Checkered Flag Promotions Figure 8s, Andrew Burton capped off an impressive 2009 racing season as the 22-year-old driver of the Performance Auto Chevrolet Caprice netted his first career track championship in the Figure 8s division.

He won six Features during the 2009 campaign and on Season Championship night on September 4th, he won both the Bombers and Figure 8s Features to finish the year with eight Overall Feature Wins, the most of any driver at Dixie Motor Speedway in 2009! Those Six Figure 8 Wins came on May 8th, May 29th, June 5th, July 31st, August 14h, and September 4th.

In 11 Figure 8s starts, he scored nine Top Five finishes which were also his nine Top 10 showings. He also led the most laps in the Features on the tricky Figure 8 track. As one of several double duty drivers in the Figure 8s division, he also finished seventh in the final Bombers Points Standings.

Additional sponsorship on the side of his white #05 came from; Custom Car Shop, Samson’s Garage, and Burton Racing.

Ray DerMiner finished second in the final points standings with two Feature Wins while Mike Wines scored an impressive third place finish over John Hitsman (1 Feature Win), and Tony Williams, who completed the Top Five.

Troy Shinabarger finished sixth while Ricky Casey (1), C.J. Davis, Gerry Persails Jr., and Cam Hiltz were the Top 10. Ed Doutre Jr., collected a feature win in his first career Figure 8s start and in just two appearances, finished 13th in the points chase.

Brandan Adams scored his second Rookie of the Year title of the night to complete a rare double while Burton walked away with the Schaefer-Bierlein Dodge of Frankenmuth Hard-Charger Award. Shinabarger was the Car and Crew Award Winner while Wines won the Most Improved Driver and DerMiner was the winner of the Sportsman of the Year Award.
