8carlson9rootslmchampsCheckered Flag Promotions and Dixie Motor Speedway would like to take this time to salute the 2009 Co-Champions in 2009 Dixie Cup Triple Crown Series Super Late Models.

8 Dakota Carlson - Cedar Springs, Michigan
9 Mike Root - Grand Rapids, Michigan

The tiebreaker edge however goes to Carlson based on his feature win in the 1st annual East VS West Shootout 100 on June 12th. Carlson, in his Express Signs Chevrolet Camaro and Root in his Universal Graphic Solutions Chevrolet Camaro finished ahead of a very talented field in a very ultra competitive series that was shortened to two events due to a rainout in July, which scrambled the remainder of the schedule for the Supers.

The 22-year-old Carlson also finished third in the 46th annual Dixie Classic 100 on August 7th. The 34-year-old Root, who also won the 2009 Flat Rock Speedway / Toledo Speedway Gold Cup Series Championship, finished second in both events.

Carlson’s gray and blue #8 carried additional sponsorship from; Auto Fix-It Shop, Putt-Putt’s Bar, Universal Graphic Solutions, Michigan Cat, and Dakota Carlson Racing while Root’s red #9 sported decals from Creating Accents, Ace Auto Body, Med I.D., Amsoil, The Jant Group, Radiators By Weller, Renegade Racing Fuels and Lubricants, and Mike Root Racing.

Finishing behind Carlson and Root was Johnny Belott, who scored a third place finish in the mini-series ahead of Mike Luberda Jr., and Three-Time Series Champion and Michigan Motorsports Hall of Fame Driver, John Grega who completed the Top Five.

John Doering Jr., finished 11th in the points with one feature win, that coming in the 46th annual Dixie Classic 100 back on August 7th. This was Doering Jr’s seventh career Dixie Classic win.
