22rileybanquetIn the Teamtech Motorsports Sportsmen division, 50-year-old Don Riley dominated all season long as the driver of the Stevens Cycle Chevrolet Impala had a career season en route to his second career Dixie Motor Speedway Track Championship and first on the 4/10s mile. He is also the 2003 Street Stocks Track Champion.

During the 2009 campaign, Riley scored an impressive six feature wins as those victories were collected on May 8th, June 5th, June 12th, June 19th, July 3rd, and September 11th. He also racked up eight Fast Qualifier Awards including breaking his own track record on three occasions. In 10 starts, he never finished outside of the Top Five all season long and he also picked up one Heat Race Win.

Riley’s green and yellow #22 also had sponsorship decals on his ride from; Hooper Auto Recycling, C-J Auto Body, Halm Septic and Sewer, Ken Nelson Builders, Mueller Auto Repair, Suspension Maxx, Vouaux Racing, Deidre Holsinger Family Dentistry, and Riley Racing.

Chet Allen scored an impressive runner-up showing with one Feature Win while 2008 Track Champion, Kevin Harder (1 Feature Win) finished third. Chris Stearns (1) was fourth as 16-year-old Jimmy Novak rounded out the Top Five.

Joe Cunningham, Riley’s teammate, finished sixth ahead of Gary Shank Jr., Tony Basalone, Buddy McGeathy, and Julian Fluty were the Top 10. Jon Giffel was the lone driver who collected a feature win while finished outside of the Top 10 in the final points standings.

58-year-old Brad McGeathy Sr., won the 2009 Rookie of the Year title as Riley also scored the Schaefer-Bierlein Dodge of Frankenmuth Hard-Charger Award. Allen grabbed the Car and Crew Award as Novak was the Most Improved Driver and Fluty picked up the Sportsman of the Year.
