Pioneer Seed 50 and General RV Eve of Destruction presented by Ethanol Night at the RacesWritten by Dixie Motor Speedway
Dixie Story from September 7, 2013
It was a wet and wild night on Saturday, September 7th as Dixie Motor Speedway presented Ethanol Night at the Races and General RV Eve of Destruction at Auto City Speedway.
The night also included some "serious" racing as Morse Farms presented the Pioneer Seed 50 Modified Invitational. Rain delayed the start of action for over an hour and returned numerous times throughout the night. But the hearty fans were ready, and the ponchos and umbrellas were put to good use as the crowd was treated to some awesome competition which turned into somewhat of a mud fest by the end of the night.
Due to the rain delay, qualifying for Pioneer Seed 50 was determined by the fastest hot lap session which was turned by Midland’s Travis Eddy. In feature action, Donny Matteson, Jr. Jumped out in front and held the lead for the first 2 laps until Dave Christensen got by. Most of the action centered around Christensen as he battled hard to fight off Eddy, Joey Morrisette and Ken O'Connor. Eddy spun in turn one, bringing out the only caution of the 50-lap affair, once again stacking up the field. Jordan Pruitt had steadily worked his way through the field, claiming the point on lap 26, and leaving the rest to battle door-to-door for the runner-up spot. With Pruitt cruising to the win, Morrisette overtook Christensen for second, while Eddy would recover for third, followed by Eddy, Christensen and O'Connor.
But the fans come to see the destruction and despite the rain, they were delighted with all the carnage on the track. Cam and Cory King were double winners, taking the Chain Gang Race and, in the rain, won the Dixie Crash Cars. Ron Haynes was victorious in the Flag Pole Race and Donny Matteson, Jr. made a last lap pass to win the Enduro. Due to the wet track conditions the School Bus Figure-8 was cancelled, but fans were delighted with all the wrecks in the Figure-8 Trailer Race, won by Russell Wilson.
Auto City Speedway will host Track Champion Night on Saturday, September 14th. For more info call 810-686-9500 or go to autocityspeedway .com.
